Hi i need to fit a shower enclosure door side panel in the corner of a loft room with a low ceiling.
Gap between shower door and ceiling.
The distance between the tray and the ceiling is 1 96m.
The industry standard is 1 16 but i think even that is pushing it.
You re not going to be able to calculate a minimum gap very easily.
When we view the photos of other similar bathing areas there is always a big clearance between top of bathdoor and ceiling of bathroom because most people probably have the same height ceiling in the bathroom and in their actual bathtub area.
Place a strip of fiberglass mesh drywall tape over the gap so that it butts up against the ceiling line.
I have about 2 foot from the top of the shower door.
There s so many factors involved temperature of the room air humidity where you live fan throughput temperature and materials of walls and ceiling typical duration and frequency of shower water temperature room size.
Shower doors should be installed in such a way that nothing interferes with their movement and there are no gaps between the door and the wall.
The one i like twyford t4 or geo6 is 1 9m.
A transome and a well place fan will draw air out the top of a shower and allow air to enter around the door.
Having said that my shower has just over a foot between the top of the glass and the ceiling and that seems to allow plenty of convection.
Sorry to hear about the issues you are having with your recent shower enclosure installation.
About 5 inches from the top of the shower door to the top of the shower assembly.
Cut the tape with a utility knife as needed to fit the gap.
Environments that interfere with door movement are raised decorative tiles and overhanging tiles and granite or marble slabs atop a shower seat or buttress wall.
Shower enclosure seem to come in 1 85m 1 9m and 1 95m.
I think it is reasonable to reject the 1 4 difference in size of the gap between the door and fixed panel.
Leaving about 5 inches between the shower door and shower assembly but want to make sure i have enough room to let the moisture to vent.
Step 3 cover the mesh tape with drywall joint compound using a putty knife.
If you like a dry shower you may have to leave the door open and that is not the same look you might be after.
If however your bathroom is large and the fan is a long way from the shower the shower may never dry out completely.
So get as much space as possible while getting a shower door that you can get.
